Historical Information

The Hall is decorated by a unique series of Murals on War and Peace, which were painted by Neville Lytton in 1923, just after the Victory Hall was built.

The Murals featured in a T.V. programme `Not Forgotten’, which was presented by Ian Hislop.

The Murals were painted onto the plaster whilst the plaster was still damp and the colors used have permeated the plaster itself. Over the years, the Murals became dull due to dirt in the air and tobacco smoke had also discolored the murals. In recent years the Murals were professionally cleaned and restored at considerable cost.

Talks on the fascinating story of the Murals can be given by prior arrangement with the Bookings Secretary.
